I know sometimes we have questions about this... how to trade for a free UP TO $X... and then you can find it on sale for about 1/3 the cost of the stated max limit... I was STUNNED last eve when I was at the store... I had a Free Banquet coupon up to $6.99... well, the most expensive Banquet in the store was $2.50!!! So, there's a PRIME example of being reasonable when listing and then expecting your MAX value out of your coupons... (I didn't even trade for this, I won it in Heather's raffle - Thank you Heather)... so I am not complaining for me by any means... it just made me think of that age old issue of trading $ for $ or always expecting max value out of a free...
another example, the Wholly Guacamole free this weekend is max $4.99, but I found it for $2.50 yesterday... half the value of the max! Would that make a big difference in how you view your value of that coupon to trade? kwim?
sooooo, how do you trade your frees? value for value? based on the average price? are you mindful that FREES don't always hold their full max value?!
ETA: this is for discussion, not a vent or rant on my part... it just got me thinking last night! |

if I have frees I am not going to use, I like to RAOK them.
but hey if I had a free and it said max $8 lets say. and yes in your area maybe that item is $4. I would take $1 for it... I get a dollar and you are saving 3.. kwim...
If I had a free for seafood and we are not going to use it, i would still ask a $1 or so even if it was for $10. that's just me though. I know people treat their free coupons like precious gems
I do just like to raok them to people I know will use it. |

that's how I feel too. The only coupon that I've ever had (insert free) that was remotely close to the max value was electrasol.
I will be honest, I dont usually trade for the actual cost of the product because the prices vary nationwide. I generally trade for the max value of the coupon.

No I am glad you were honest, b/c I am just as guilty ... so it really made me question myself last night, that I need to be more mindful of it... actually, I haven't traded one of my frees in a while b/c I really don't seem to have enough to trade that I wouldn't/couldn't use myself, but when I do trade them I need to take this into consideration some.. If *I* had traded that Banquet my thought would have been "that's someone's whole dinner.." so it should be worth $7, right? and then you find it for $2.50!!?!!??! wow! I would have been way off on that one!!! So it really made me think!!! |

I did get .50 per q for adidas. i thought that was fair to those who cannot get free deodorant kwim. as for food free's I really dont get many. if I got like a ton of free spam or something I would treat it as a hot q maybe. I dont really pay attention to max value one it.. kwim
but like I said I suppose it depends. I am not greedy but if I had a $12 max seafood q and was not going to use it $1 or so would be fine for me to trade it... prices are sooo different everywhere.
in a case for a the above, just ask the person what they think is fair.
9 out of 10 times around here people will be fair (maybe that is just the people that I deal with though) |

I rarely trade my frees because honestly I can use nearly any, when you don't have much money you can't be picky.
I do however send all my pet frees to my mom, aunt or pals.
But I agree, the max can be VERY different. The Arm & Hammer laundry soap for example was worth $13... but the only one I could find around here was $5 at most!!! |

That Banquet coupon has gotten me too! I kept holding on to it thinking there must be a mega size or something to get up to the $6.99 max value, but in the end, I used mine for a $2.50 box of chicken patties! I still love that coupon because we eat a lot of these, but now know that the value is much less for me.
BTW, who can use expired frees? |

| Depends for me, if I am trading a free for a free, then I will generally let my stuff go a little cheaper. For instance, I did a trade for some of the Silk Soymilk frees, my free was up to $5.99 but I know that this particular product is not $5.99 except maybe in a larger market area like NY or CA. So I traded 1 for 1. I got something I needed out of the deal and so did the other person. |
