|
|
I will put this here because not everyone goes to chit-chat or coupon talk or CouponForum. I bookmarked Freebies and only came to this board for a couple of YEARS before checking out other areas, so I know some ppl do the same.
Couple of quick points:
DUPLICATES: This is already stickied above. If you find a freebie and want to share, Hooray! BUT- do a search first and see if it was posted already. Up above click "Search" type a word in your post (like Lactaid, Lemon or TrueLemon) and in the drop down on the left click "Freebies" and it will pull up any posts where the offer was already made. New-to-you does not mean new to everyone else here. If you see it hasn't been bumped in a while and the offer is still active, pick one of the previous posts and bump it with "Still Good" or something like that. Otherwise you make another post on the same offer and waste many peoples time when they try to sign up again and get an error message. Some of us freebie-a-holics sign up for lots of great stuff and have a hard time remembering if we did or not or signed up a few weeks ago and the item hasn't shown up yet. Good intention, hurt feelings. And for goodness sakes if someone mentions it was posted already, be a grown-up about it. We all make mistakes and we are all here to help each other out.
SPAM: SPAM is an invalid offer, address-collecting site, requires credit card information or offer that requires you to complete other offers to get to it. If you find something you believe to be spam, highlight the address of the thread and send it in a PM to CouponForum. Marking all of one persons posts as Spam or PM"ing them directly or having conversations about it on their thread only makes it worse. (Trust the girl with the silly title LOL)
TITLES: Please don't take these seriously. They are private little jokes, we are members just like everyone else. The only moderator here is CouponForum.
Anything to talk about re: this board, please talk away! |

Oh yeah another thought-
OFFERS TO SPECIFIC GROUPS: If you come across a freebie targeted to a specific group (women, teachers, businesses, mothers of small babies, IT professionals, residents of certain states, etc) please try to note it in the title or body of the post. Helps us know real quickly if it is applicable. And if you recognize this in a freebie, would be nice if you post it in a reply so others know in advance. |

| Here's another tip for people: Please don't FLOOD the forum with free offers! It's great if people have a lot to share, but like you said they should take the time to look for duplicates or make sure the links work first. |

I have never personally done this, but will from now on due to the frequency lately.
IMO The most annoying part of someone replying to numerous posts as "SPAM" is that it keeps them bumped. This pretty much defeats the purpose - Let it go to the back of the rack & "report" it!!
A much better idea!! Thanks, Kris |

Using the Search function helps us ALL to avoid the duplicates Help on how to use Search is here http://www.couponforum.com/cf-266306.html?highlight=search#266306
For everyone who chimes in that they don't care if it was posted again... we are asking that you do a Search to BUMP an existing post to bring it back to page 1 for everyone else who didn't see it the 1st time around. We are NOT asking that you don't do anything about the offer. Search and BUMP, or POST if you don't find it here already. And spelling counts!
When those of you who don't care about wasted bandwidth are sending CF's Administrator a monthly check to cover it, then you can complain about having to use the Search feature
Thanks

SPAM is also...
| Quote: | Forum spam
Spamming an internet forum is when a user posts something which is off-topic or doesn’t have anything to do with the current subject. Also, a post that doesn’t contribute to the thread whatsoever is also considered spam in some cases. A third form of Forum Spamming is where a person repeatedly posts about a certain subject in a manner that is unwanted by (and possibly annoying to) the general population of the forum.
"SPAM" definition from Answers.com |
as well as joining any Forum only to post links to your own website!
No contribution... just SPAM
| CouponForum wrote: | Any time you see something.sample-now.com it is spam.
Newbie, under 5 posts, posting URL's to domains like healthy-sample.com and sample-now.com= spam.
Here are some of the common domains used.. any links which end in these are SPAM:
sample-now.com
healthy-sample.com
cleanforfree.com
june-promotion.com
july-promotion.com , etc...
sample-giveaway.com |

NOT to burst you bubble, but I've seen you YOURSELF post something that has already been posted before. Practice what you preach, and QUIT being hateful to people, everyone's not as perfect as you! Nor does everyone have the time you have to do a search on every little thing. |

sgboxer, Kris's post wasn't personal so please, calm down.
Occasional duplicates happen, that's expected and not the issue.
You might note that the Site Admin has this thread stickied for a reason. On a site this size, using the Search feature is a PLUS and recommended. |

Yes, I had to learn somewhere, didn't I? And I pass my learnings on.
If you don't have time to "search", then don't fill the board with duplicates. Being the janitor is a tiring and thankless job and I don't expect you to appreciate the work may of us do to keep the board clean. Fortunately for you, you will likely never know how bad this board could be. |

i have an idea!!!!
how about when an offer is over the orginal poster puts that in the subject line that way people dont go to look for the offer and cant find it and stuff. i think it would be a good thing to try, IMO |

Thats what is supposed to happen. If someone doesn't check the board often you can pm them and ask them to upate it. If they are no longer a member there isn't much you can do about it. |

really i guess i've never noticed. i just feel bad for those that get in after the offer is over with and they cant get to it.
how do we know if they are no longer here or not? i guess i've never noticed a difference in names if they are kicked off the board. |

Sure wish people would at least attempt a search for some listings/postings! I appreciate ALL of the freebie posts, I sure do.... just it is getting kind of ridiculous for there to be duplicate posts for the same freebie on the same page only a couple posts apart!! It really does make it a bit easier to know which freebies you signed up for if there aren't 15 posts for the same freebie!!
(Having said that, I know I am guilty sometimes of posting a duplicate! I look 99.5% of the time though, and sometimes I miss the previous post or it is titled differently or I just plain make a mistake.)
Not trying to be mean or make anyone not post.... just trying to follow the rules/guidelines to keep the board a little tidier/easier to navigate and make the most of!!
TIA! Keep on posting good ones!! |

This is a plea for people to please go and check their threads that they've started here. If the offer has now expired/run out of products, please change the thread title to something like "Over/finished/all gone" etc.
It would save lots of time. |

That's a snag we have hit here, Shannon.
Brian does not want to delete the dead posts, or even lock them so they can fall off. I can't blame him on the latter, that's a ton of work! And only one mod to do it- I'd rather he catch spammers and lock bad threads and such first. I know it would be impossible for me to go back to the thousands of freebies I have posted and check them all, so all we can really do is depend on people to post when they are dead after they try the offer and hopefully the OP notices it was bumped. And again, you could also try pm'ing the OP if no response. People go through phases in their activity here, sometimes they visit daily, sometimes off for weeks, sometimes never come back. So if they don't see the request to edit the post/mark it over, they can't fix it. Thanks for the reminder, definitely due! |
