|
|
Someone else discussed this in another forum, but I'm not sure everyone knew to look. So, I decided to repost:
If you have used the Direct Foam and still have the dispenser, then you should make your own refill. If you take 5-6 parts water and 1 part Dawn dish liquid, it's the EXACT same as the Direct Foam you pay $3.00 a bottle for! I actually like it better, and 1 bottle of dish liquid will last months! It bothers me that they are making so much money off our stupidity! Ha Ha!
If you have a hard time getting the consistency you want, just keep adding water (if it's too thick) or soap (if it's too thin) to where it makes a nice foam from your bottle. Keep pumping until it starts to foam (may take 5-10 pumps) Don't give up, it WILL work!
Thanks! |

That sounds great! You know, I think that when using foam you waste so much less soap, it's easier to clean off your hands, but more so, it coats your hands (or whatever you are washing) much better. This helps kill germs SO more effectively. A few weeks ago in Physiology class, my prefessor said that it's BEST to wash your hands for at least 2 minutes. Who was that much time! So it's ideal to lather for at least 30 seconds. He also mentioned that regular soap is just as effective or maybe even MORE effective than anti-bacterial soap. There is such a tiny amount of the anti-bacterial agent in the soap that bacteria can actually become resistant to the agent. This makes it harder in the future to kill bacteria, and that's NOT good!!!
So now, I just use regular soap and regular dish liquid. No more anti-bacterial for me! |

I have a friend in nursing school.
Here's what they told her for general hand washing:
Use warm water, soap up & wash while you sing 2 complete verses of "Happy Birthday" before rinsing! (I do it in my head!!)
Also, ALL soap is anti-bacterial in the sense they mean. They all kill bacteria. If it didn't, it couldn't be sold as soap. So- as you said-- Any soap will do! |

| I have already done this because actually Pampered Chef makes a dish detergent dispenser similar to the Dawn Direct Foam and that is their "recipe" too. But I don't think it is just as good at all. Oneor two pumps of the direct foam does a sink full of dishes and when I make my own I have to repump after a couple dishes. |

I do this too, but if you have to repump so soon, add a little more dishsoap. I added about 1 tsp when it wasn't lasting, and now it does last just as long. HTH! |

I just got lucky. I found the large refills on clearance for 2.99 and had some 2.00*1 coupons. So I got several bottles for .99.
But will try this when the refills are gone. |

Great ideas! I bought one of the other foam pumps for hands months ago and every time I refilled it in stopped being able to push down.
I use this sort of soap only for bottles (baby)
Is everyone else using this for regular dishes instead? |

Do you all believe that buying the regular Dawn and then putting it in the Dawn Direct foam is more frugal.... or saves more money then using regular Dawn?? KWIM?
I'm thinking that this way.. buyinh the regular Dawn and then using the 2TBL to put in the bottle w/water should save alot $$$. Especially because we have to do our dishes by hand. We don't have a dishwasher. |

I think it is a huge moneysaver because I buy the huge bottles of dish soap...doesnt even have to be dawn....and put in the soap in with the water, and you get 250ish pumps out of the Direct foam.....and one or 2 pumps does the entire load of dishes....you do the math! |

How much soap do you put in the pump? I was reading 2TBL... Is this enough? |

Ok thanks... I will try it. 2 TBS just seemed alittle weak to me. I can't believe the money that has literally been going down my drain!! And just think of the money the company is making... charging for soapy water as soap foam! |

| Has anyone (else) ever figured out how long a bottle of Direct Foam lasts? I dated the last one i started, just to see. Still going strong, since August. I dont do dishes everyday, but at least 5/7, and if i've put it off a few days it does take a few squirts to make it through all the dishes. I love the stuff as it really works for how i do dishes. Probably if i had a whole family's worth, i'd think differently. |

I'd say at least 2wks... but we don't have dishwasher so.. we use it 2-3x a day. But I was figuring it out and still think I'm saving a bundle w/buying whatever I can get cheap and putting it in the pump. |

I barely got my first bottle of the Direct Foam about 2 weeks ago and we used to go through a whole bottle of dish soap in a few weeks and with this it hasnt even made a dent in the bottle and is going on 2 weeks. Woo Hoo!! Thanks.
I also filled up the Kandoo with the little bit of Softsoap that couldnt get pumped out and filled the rest with water and its still going, at this rate I wont need dish soap or hand soap for 10 years. LOL Thanks guys!!! |
