I am new to coupons also. And, like you, I need to find extra money in my life which means that I am trying to use coupons.
Today I went to the store and saved 15% of my bill. But, that wasn't the savings I was looking for. So, I came home and started calling a lot of the stores in my area (which there is only 5 grocery stores where I live so it wasn't much). I asked the stores what there coupon policy was and found a store that will double my coupons up to $1. I am going to go to them later tonight and see what type of savings I find this time.
So, that would be my suggestion. Call the stores and see which ones will double your coupons. |

I thought I would follow up, seeing how I am just learning too.
I told you that I found a store in my area that doubled coupons. When I called them they said, "Up to a dollar." My idea of what that meant was different than their's. I thought they meant they double all coupons that where a dollar or under. They meant that they double any coupon under a dollar to equal $1.00. So, if I gave them a $0.50 coupon they doubled it by $0.50. If I gave them a $0.75 coupon they add $0.25 to it to equal $1.00.
There overall prices where a little higher than I normally spend at the store I regularly shop at. My total was $92.23. After I used the coupons and their rewards card I paid $51.85. So, my savings where 44%. But, like I said the prices where a little more than I would normally save shopping at the other store. |

| One thing that I find helpful is looking through the circulars of the Sunday papers. This past Sunday the Washington Post had a McIlhenny Tobasco coupon for $.60 off. My grocery store doubles up to $1.00. They had the sauce for 10/$10 so I got it for free. Any other time I would not have bought it, but since I got it for free I got a few. Also, I found Gain dryer sheets coupons for $1.00 off, one mistake I had made in the past which never saved me money was to buy the biggest box of whatever I had a coupon for thinking I was saving money. With the $1.00 off Gain you can get the smaller box (40ct) of the dryer sheets for $.25 at Walmart or less if its on sale. |
