My oldest son is going to all day kindergarten in a couple of weeks.
I need to pack his lunch daily. He is allergic to peanuts and nuts so PB&Js are out. I am looking for any and all ideas so I have a variety of things to pack when school starts. |

when the kid was that age he went to day camp when he was with us for the summer.
i ALWAYS made sure that his lunch contained one of each fo the following:
an entree (often the forbidden pb and J sandwhich or a go gurt...pick soemthing he will eat!)
a beverage (you may be able to sign up for a milk program at school, i always sent a jiuce box with 100% fruit juice...he never relaized it as he would often get the good stuff disguised as "junk" you know..."Funky Tropical Fruit Punch...made with 100% real fruit juice!)
a healthy option...often baby carrots, but could be soem fruit or cerlery, etc
a surpise item, maybe a snack cake or a pouch of fruit snacks or a small candy...a treat thing.
he USUALLY ate everything and was happy. teh big thing is to be sure to talk to your son to see what he would like in his lunch. i knwo that for a while he was getting go Gurts alot and no pb and j. Then one day he said he wanted pb and j so that is what he got! I just had no idea!

| How about some wrapped sandwiches? Flatout bread makes child size wrap bread? Very good and filling at the same time ( I use them as a breakfast wrap for myself) The possibilities are endless for fillings. |

Yeah kinda, Kroger sells them. They are a bit thicker then a tortilla. Also have seen them at super target as well in the produce/fresh bread area.

I remember being in like Kindergarten and first grade and having soup in a thermos. Is this not done anymore?
I could imagine lots of things you could take. Basically anything he eats at home he can eat at school. |

My baby will be starting kindergarden Sept. 4th and is a very picky eater. He won't eat pb&j anyway so that's out. Things that he likes are bologna (by itself), cold hotdogs (warm too, but won't work for school), applesauce cups, string cheese, little Diego yougurt cups, all kinds of crackers, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, poptarts, dry cereal, juice, chocolate milk. That's pretty much it. He is finally eating plain pasta and scrambled eggs, but can't take those to school. |

IF you get a thermos and fill it with VERY VERY hot water inthe am, then dump it out and then place the pasta or hot dogs in there they will stay warm till lunch.

bolonigna rolls (just roll soem up so it looks nice and is eaay to eat, apple sauce cup, a beverage of his/your choice and a couple of cookies. |

The thermos thing isn't a bad idea. I may have to try it. Even if it's not that warm anymore he doesn't mind eating cold noodles....YUCK! |

Soemthing else i did that the kid REALLY liked (even when he was older liek 9 or 10) i would dtraw a little picture on a npakina dn write a quick note. it might be a smaile face adn a "Have fun today" kinda note or a simple pictureof a fish (he often had fish) and then i would write;
beautiful (his fish) says have a gret day. I did this the entire time he went to camp. VERY simple pictures, a few nice words all on a napkin with a sharpie. I asked him when he was older if he still wanted me to do it and he said he did. he said soem kids might not liek it any more but he did and so i kept it up. Made me feel good to make him happy! |

| Thanks ladies. Has anyone used cookie cutters to make the sandwiches in different shapes? I wondering if this would be a waste of time or if it would "inspire" them to eat their sandwich!! LOL!!! |

That spread has peanut oil in it which I believe will still be a problem with peanut allergies. |

Thanks Erin for the thought, but as Aaron's Mom noticed it does have peanut oil, which would make him allergic to it. I have thought about trying Sunflower Butter, which is suppose to be similar to peanut butter. But I'm not sure if he would eat it. If his sister has peanut butter anything, he makes her brush her teeth and wash her hands and face before he will play with her (even though his allergy is not airbourne, but a consumption allergy). |

I was just bumping this to see if anyone has any additional ideas/suggestions for school lunches.
Caeleb will be starting Kindergarten next month and we'll be fixing his lunch together. He's not a really picky eater, but our biggest obstacle is going to be that he is used to eating leftovers/heated up meals for lunch and he won't be able to do that.
Any cold/room temp. ideas are greatly appreciated!
TIA!

My son likes taking home made mini pizzas. They're fun for kids to help make too.
Flatten out a canned biscuit on cookie sheet. Add pizza sauce, cheese, pepperoni, or whatever topping you like. Bake according to directions on can. (These hold up really well the next day in a lunch box.)
Or sometimes I roll out crescent rolls and fill with ham and cheese or other combos like pepperoni and pizza sauce. Roll up like usual and bake. |
