|
|
I want to boil some chicken to be used for chicken soup/salad tomorrow.
Do I need to use water or chicken broth to boil it, oh and do I need to add any seasonings , spices, veggies etc to the water?
How long do I have to boil it ( I need to boil and shred it ) and can the liquid it was boiled in be used for anything else ? Can I use a slow cooker to do this or the stove ?
Sorry Ant, wrong area, just needed a quick reply, move it please |

When I make chicken and dumplings, I don't add broth to it unless I need more juice after I ad the dumplings. So, unless it isn't soupy enough in the end, I wouldn't ad it. I know that some people do though.
I use water to boil, I don't ad veggies or anything until after I've drained and deboned them.
It will boil for awhile. (a few hours) You can almost tell when it's done because it will fall completely apart in the pan. I use the stove in a large pot, water 3/4 the way up. |

You can boil it in water. I'd add salt, pepper, carrots, onions, and celery to the water.
Cook it on the stove top. It's the fastest way. I am guessing for 1 1/2 hours. Just pull it away fromt he bone to check if it's done.
Let the water cool and skim off the fat from the top then strain it. Use it for your soup, or boil potatoes in it, or boil noodles in it. |

This is exactly how I do it. I think that adding the spices and veggies that the chicken has added flavor. |

| How do you guys cook chicken thighs? I got some with bone-in and skin. Can I just rub with olive oil, salt, pepper, and paprika and cook on the stove in a pan? I like to it be a little bit browned and crisp. |

I've got a turkey thigh and have been wondering the same thing. Couldn't decide what I wanted to do with it. |

Yea, or you can get it a little crisp on the outside, and then bake it the rest of the way. |

It turned out great, was not dry or anything, took close to 1.5 hrs though, I did add a bay leaf, carrots, celery, onions and a garlic clove to the water , the chix salad is made, now I need to find a use for the yummy smelling broth.
I usually grill my chicken thighs, bone in, they are really juicy inside, crisp on the outside, I usually marinate them for a little before in some spices etc. |

If you don't find anything to do with the broth you can freeze if for later use. |
