|
Thought this might be good info to keep where we can find it. I know I'm forever trying to recalculate the time from bake time to slow cooker time.
• Low heat is approximately 200°F degrees,
• High heat is approximately 300°F degrees, depending on your make/model.
• Cooking time on high is approximately half of the cooking time on low.
• Do not remove the lid if possible during cooking as the appliance will lose heat and increase the cooking time 20 minutes for each time you lift the lid.
What are the typical slow cooker food loads and their respective cook times?
Meat Cut. . . . . . Meat Weight. . .Low Cook Time. . .High Cook Time
Large Pork Roast*. . .6-7 lbs. . . . . .9 ½ hours. . . . . . 7 ½ hours
Pork Loin. . . . . . . . . .3-4 lbs. . . . . .6 hours. . . . . . . . 5 hours
Poultry**. . . . . . . . . .6 lbs. . . . . . . 7 ½ hours. . . . . . 6 ¼ hours
Beef Roast . . . . . . . . 3-4 lbs. . . . . .8 hours. . . . . . . . 5 ¾ hours
Stew Meat. . . . . . . . .3 lbs. . . . . . . 6 hours. . . . . . . . 4 ¾ hours
Fish***. . . . . . . . . . .2 lbs. . . . . . . 3 ½ hours. . . . . . 1 ½ hours
Note: All cook times are approximate. Appropriate cook time varies according to specific meat characteristics for fat content and connective tissue as well as other ingredients added to dish including liquid, size of meat cubes, type of vegetable, size of vegetable dice, how high slow cooker is filled, etc.
* Pork butt, pork shoulder
** Whole chicken, Bone-in turkey breast
*** If fish is stirred in after Crock-Pot® slow cooker has been fully heated to stabilization/simmer point, it will cook within 15-30 minutes.

General Oven to Crockpot Cooking Time Conversions
Oven. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Crockpot
15 to 30 minutes. . . . . . . . 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 hours on HIGH or 4 to 6 hours on LOW
35 to 45 minutes. . . . . . . . 2 to 3 hours on HIGH or 6 to 8 hours on LOW
50 minutes to 3 hours. . . . .4 to 5 hours on HIGH or 8 to 18 hours on LOW
Note: Most uncooked meat and vegetable combinations will require at least 8 hours on LOW.
Slow Cooker Times and Temperatures
Time. . . . . . Low. . . .High
1/2 hour. . . .108º. . . 150º
3/4 hour. . . .124º. . . 168º
1 hour. . . . . 135º. . . 183º
1 ½ hours. . 154º. . . 250º
2 hours. . . . 168º. . . 300º
2 ½ hours. . 183º. . . 315º
3 hours. . . . 200º. . . 319º
3 ½ hours. . 208º. . . 330º
4 hours. . . . 212º. . . 333º
5 hours. . . . 212º. . . 333º
6 hours. . . . 212º. . . 335º
7 hours. . . . 212º. . . 340º
8 hours. . . . 212º. . . 340º
2 hours on Low generally equals 1 hour on High. If a recipe calls for 8 hours on Low, you can cook it on High part of the time either at the beginning or the end.
If you have to serve dinner sooner than expected, you can switch from Low to High and cook for half the remaining time. But don't cook food covered with liquid on High once the temperature hits 212º or it will be boiled.
Altitude cooking requires increasing the cooking time 1 hour on Low or 1/2 hour on High for every 1,000 feet above 4,000 feet. |

On the above time charts, meat is thawed.
You can cook frozen but frozen meats need an additional 4 to 6 hours on Low or 2 hours on High. Also be sure to add at least 1 cup of warm liquid at the start. |

Thanks for posting this. I really need to start using my slow cooker more. I know you save a lot of $ on your electric bill when you use it instead of the stove/oven. |
