Does anybody make their own yogurt? I would like to find a recipe for Strawberry Yogurt .... my son inhales this stuff and I would think it would be cheaper to make my own instead of buying the individual jars ....

I have not tried this but I found it in a neighborhood cookbook.
4c. milk
1 heaping Tbsp. plain yogurt
With thermometer clipped to the inside of a saucepan, heat milk over med. high heat to 180 degrees. Don't let thermometer touch bottom of saucepan. Remove from heat and cool quickly to 110. Milk now is pasturized. Add 2 Tbsp. of 110 degree milk to 1 Tbsp. yogurt. Stir til smooth. Add that to rest of milk. Stir thoroughly but gently. Place in yogurt maker or wide mouth thermos and let stand undisturbed 5 hours for mild yogurt, 8 hours for firm tangy yogurt. Chill before serving. You can add the fruit you want, but I don't know if it's while it is standing or after. Good luck! |
